Strand Theatre Weekly Email - 03/27/2008
Hello All…
As spring approaches, we are taking advantage of the warmer weather. Soon we will start work on our facade. This will be delayed a little waiting on a grant request. There are still several things we need to do inside the theatre to prepare for the outside makeover. As the weather gets warmer still, we will start having some Saturday work sessions to get things done. This time, however, we have a new twist…..the theatre is being used! Our work sessions will be scheduled around our performance calendar. So far the mornings are clear, but that could change at any time.
I am pleased that so many people are approaching us for their venue. You might have read in the Shelbyville News that the Strand will be the site of the part of the "Shelby Idol" series. It will be fun to see local talent on our stage. Things are popping up on the schedule all the time. Our web site has had a few Events calendars that we have tried. Our trusty web developer Shane K. is looking for a permanent solution. We are also still working on the Community Calendar module for our web site. There has been lots of work done, but as we know all to well, there is a tremendous of work ahead of us. These bits and bytes are a like our plaster. Sometimes it just seems to crack or fall off. Well, we whipped our plaster into shape, so I have no doubt that the virtual stuff will succumb to our wishes too.
This weekend the GATEWAY TRIO will perform at 7:30 on Saturday March 29, 2008. There are still plenty of tickets available. I hope you all listened to the nice interview with Pat Brunner from the Trio WSVX Thursday morning. A big thank you to our friends at the radio station for helping get the word out. Please come and hear this fun group perform.
On a theatre note, the Hammond organ that was donated to the Strand project when it began came out of hibernation this week. My Dad will play it as people before the concert this Saturday. It came through fine. It has been covered and shuffled around in the theatre since June 2005. It has been just about everywhere in the building while we were in construction. We oiled it up, plugged it in….and lo and behold we heard music! This C-2 is a great addition to the standard equipment we have to offer. We also did some modification to our sound system yet again. It is a slow process, but will be worth the investment of time. Thank you to Ron B. for leading the charge on getting it right. Electrical work has continued. Steve D. and Darin M. have been eliminating old dangerous circuits and re-routing them to our new panel. This too is a long process, but ever step makes our theatre, and our whole block, safer.
