Strand Theatre Weekly Email: November 28, 2008

Our first movie is under our belt.  The parade was COLD, but the theatre was warm (thank you Bob S.)   We had 53 brave soles check out our first foray into the movie business.   The screen is huge when it has an image projected upon it.   The technical aspects of the evening went without a hitch.  Thank you to Joey G. and Ron B. for doing the work to figure it out.   Credit needs to go to Gary N., who at our board meeting the previous Thursday planted the seed for this movie idea.

Let’s talk about the film.  It reminds me of my Aunt Rose the who lived in New York City.   When I was 13 I had a trip to stay with my Aunt Rose in Manhattan.   While there I had a new culinary experience…pickled tongue.   It was delicious.   Now fast forward a few years, and to my surprise, not many people (except my neighbor Jerry Lux) seem to enjoy the delicacy.   Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is the same thing.   I am sure there are those who think it is the greatest movie ever filmed.  Then there are the rest of us…..

Saturday’s performance by the Blue River Community Choir and the Dixie Kats was great.   Thank you to all the performers for making it happen.  While the performance was taking place, we had a bit of a temperature swing in the theatre.   It was very comfy the first half then got cool the second half – even in the balcony.   It again returned to the comfy feel after the show.   Bob S. is on it.   We will figure it out yet.   The culprit might be the location of our thermostat.   As soon as Steve D. and Darin M. have a little time, that will be rectified (in more ways than one).  We are going to place the thermostat in a location more suited to getting even temperature in the auditorium.

This week we have two concerts.  Tonight (Friday) we have the Time Bandits.   Look for the Union Jack on our marquee…the British Invasion is headed towards the Strand.   On Saturday night we have Drop Claw and Faded Daze.   Both bands have played the Strand in the past.   Drop Claw is a very high energy group that puts on a great show.   Faded Daze has added a new lead singer.   I look forward to hearing their evolving sound.   Bassist Jim W. says they are having more fun than ever!

Our Strand family hopes you had a very enjoyable Thanksgiving.   In this time of economic turmoil sometimes it is hard to find positive things.   We are fortunate to have a place on South Harrison Street that is positive and upbeat.   Whatever problems we have seem to vanish as we walk in the theatre doors.

Because of you and your support we have the following statistics:  49 events with 6252 total audience members!  We now have something else to tally, that would be 6199 for live performance and 53 for film!

Thank you for all the encouragement and attendance.   We are going to have a great December.  With one month left in our first year of operation it is looking like the 4th quarter in the Bucket Game….a predictable finish!
