Strand Theatre Weekly Email - 4/10/2008

Hello All,

This weekend Joey G. from Smashed Productions is bringing in another band. "Exiled Few" is a blues rock group. If it is anything like last Saturday night, it will be a great night of fun and music. Last weekend was our first rock band. We also dedicated the Shelby County Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which is housed in the lobby of our theatre. The band entertained to an audience of over 100. This was an eclectic group, on stage and audience too. The audience had very young kids, and the very young at heart. People were dressed anywhere from jeans and tee shirts to suit and tie. The band put on an outstanding show. They finished with "I am the Walrus". All I can say is coo coo cachoo.

On Sunday we had an Open House to celebrate our one year anniversary. This marks the date that we started working on the theatre. Thank you to all who attended. We had several people who were visiting the theatre for the first time, or at least the first time in many years. It was pleasure to talk to everyone and show them our progress.

These newsletters seem to appear every Thursday. Ever wonder how it happens? Didn’t think so, but here it is anyway. Either Steve or I write them, and Steve is the keeper of the list and sends them out. It seems for now I have been doing the writing, but as many of you know Steve wrote them for months. This is a good system and a not so good system…….you see Steve can edit things……like the fact that TODAY IS STEVE FRAZEE’S 50th BIRTHDAY!!!!!! When you see Steve, give him birthday wishes, or just honk as you drive by the theatre. We’ll see if the above paragraph makes it out to you all!

The Shelbyville News ran a wonderful article about the Open House last week. Because of that article, an anonymous donor endowed our movie screen! It was ordered this week and should be installed in about 45 days. Once the screen is installed, it will bring a new chapter to what we are able to offer. We are in the planning stages of the Classic Film Series. Our goal is to have movies every week, the same time every week. This will be something that we will solicit sponsorship to help defray the costs. Chris N. and Gary N. are working to get our contracts with the film distributors. Eric G. will guide us through the process and be the house projectionist and film historian.

The schedule is filling up nicely. We have several things planned and something for everyone.
