Strand Theatre Weekly Email – 4/14/2017

Dear Strand Fan,

We’ve had an excellent week.  This was posted to our Facebook Page:

I want to thank the Strand Theatre for the countless opportunities they have given me. The experience of Shelby Idol at this amazing theatre really has made me into who I am today in my musical abilities. I have been awarded a $5000 scholarship from the University of Indianapolis, and I believe it is because of my time that I spent on that stage. I cherish the memories that I’ve made with some awesome people. They are memories I will never forget. This place is where I have grown up. I hope that there can be many more girls and boys like me to get the opportunities I did in my years of junior high and high school. With much love,  Lauren Taylor

That is fun stuff.    Thank you Lauren.  You hit the nail on the head on why the Strand exists.

On Saturday we passed our 100,000th patron.   Congratulations to Cathy Samaras our 100,000th patron.   Not only did Cathy hear a great concert that night by the Baggy Bottom Boys, but she also received a genuine commemorative Strand Coffee Mug.   Thank you to all the previous 99,999 patrons, and to Cathy’s husband who was our 100,001st patron!

Tonight is DISH IT OUT!   This cooking competition will allow 4 students from Blue River Career Programs culinary class to compete for $3000 in scholarships.    This will be presented in the style of a TV cooking competition.   This is a fun event.   Come out and support these students as they hone their skills.

Tomorrow is UKULELE RUSS.    Russ is from Alaska.   He will bring wonderful ukulele playing as well has his Alaska brand of humor.   We aren’t quite sure what that is, but we can all find out together!    We hope you can join us for this event.   The Strand is pleased to bring talent from across our country to Shelbyville.   The key is audience support.    Tickets are available in advance online and at Mickey’s T-Mart.   The concert starts at 7:30pm.   We hope to see you there!

This weekend the Shelby County Players load in their upcoming play TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE the 2002 Jeffrey Hatcher-Mitch Albom stage version of the smash best-selling book by Mitch Albom.   The show will hit the Strand stage April 21 for 7 performances over two weekends.  The two-character play is the story of sportswriter Mitch Albom, played by Rocky Miano, who reconnects with his terminally ill former professor, Morrie Schwartz played by Mark Andrews.

Directed by Shelbyville native Russ Gross, produced by Cindy Leahy with Tiffany D. Wilson as the stage manager,  this play will warm your heart, make you laugh and leave you reflecting on your own life.  It is a must see for all ages.   We hope to see you there.

Did we mention we are still painting?   The amount of things to be cosmetically finished in our offices is staggering.   We are slowly inching forward.  If you would like to help, please let us know.    It is going to be worth the wait when finished!

We hope you enjoy having the Strand.  There is always something different and it is always fun.  Thank you for your support.  See you at the Strand!
