Both were uprooted from their homes and forced to leave most of their belongings behind when they were teens. Jean and her family were evacuated from their home in April 1942 to ‘Camp Harmony,’ a temporary internment camp in Puyallup, Washington. Her family was then moved to Minidoka War Relocation Center in Hunt, Idaho where they resided from September ‘42 – December ‘44. Minidoka was one of 10 internment camps built in desert areas of the U.S. in the wake of Imperial Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor. Jean and her husband currently reside in Carmel, Indiana.
