As the cold weather approaches, Strand volunteer Mike Cutrufelli has added a new product for our concessions.   Mike roasts his own coffee.  His company, Cutrufelli’s Coffees, has several custom blends.   The Strand is proud to serve the "Strand Mocha Blend".   This smooth coffee is a blend of Indonesian and Yemen beans.   It features low acidity and earthy qualities with a clean and bright flavor.

Other Cutrufelli blends include:  Cutrufelli’s Rage, Dawn’s Multi-Bean Espresso, Booba’s Italian Espresso, Riley’s Decaf Espresso, Rose’s Cadillac Blend, Candy’s Museum Blend, Bone Crackers / French Roasts, Ayer’s Decaf Blend, SJC Daily Blend, Val’s Kona Fancy Bean, Vicci’s Yemen Mocha, Jake’s Sumatra Manheling and Kinsey’s Tanzanian Pea Berry.

On Thursday October 30, 2008 the Strand was host  to a poetry reading sponsored by Three Sisters Bookstore.   The theatre opened at 6:30 with the reading beginning at 7:00 pm.    Several people attended.  There was something for everyone.   Thank you to Carolyn, Mary Kay and Barbara for hosting this event.

The Lt. Governor of Indiana Becky Skillman, spoke at the Strand Theatre in Shelbyville as part of a campaign stop in Shelbyville.    She spoke kindly of our project and the revitalization theatres like ours bring to their communities.

On Saturday October 25, 2008 Smashed Productions produced a stellar evening of fun and entertainment.    Ede followed by Travis of the Cosmos provided the music…..the audience provided the rest!

Preparations are under way for the Halloween Bash on Saturday night October 25, 2008.   Smashed Productions is transforming the Strand into a Spooky Halloween Hideout!

Huber Bros., Inc. of Shelbyville arrived at the Strand Theatre to complete the limestone cleaning work on the Strand Facade.  This is paid for in part by the Facade Grant received from Mainstreet Shelbyville, Inc.     The limestone elements of our facade have been hidden beneath layers of paint for decades.    Huber Bros. were able to safely clean and seal the limestone.  They used a needle vibrator to clean the stone.  No chemicals were used.    Thank you John and the gang for a great job!

The Shelby Community Band performed a concert on October 18, 2008.    The event was free and well attended.   

On October 4, 2008 Smashed Productions presented a fun night of music at the Strand.   First on the bill was The Guild Guys.   As we quickly learned it is the guys + a girl!    They played an accoustic set of popular classics.  

Next on the bill was the headliner R & R Classics.   They played an 85 minute set that concluded with "Pretty Woman" and "Louie Louie".    Their rendition of "Let it Be" was excellent too.

On October 2, 2008 the Strand had a visit from the Department of Homeland Security.    Representing the State Fire Marshall’s office as Shelbyville native Paul Lay.   Paul is a fire inspector and visited the Strand as part of our annual Amusement and Entertainment Permit.   

Paul gave us a clean bill of health.  He checked the fire rating tags of our curtains and the supporting fire rating certificates.   He checked exit lights, fire extinguishers and we even pulled our fire alarm for a test.

Below Steve Dennis calls our monitoring provider to put our system in "test mode".   Also, Paul Lay finishing the inspection.    We appreciate the help and advise from these inspections!

Exit 113 once again put on a great show at the Strand.    They took full advantage of our expanded stage.   Their keyboard player had plenty of room!    The concert was well attended on what was a nice fall like evening in Shelbyville.   The patrons were greeted by walking under our marquee renovation in progress.    

Every had a great time as the band played two full sets.    Thank you to the band for putting on a great show!
