The Blue River Community Foundation held its annual meeting at the Strand Theatre on June 23, 2010. During this event, the Foundation’s President Phil Brown, discussed the exciting work done by the Foundation.

Susan Furgeson, BRCF Executive Director gave a presentation of the grants and finances of the past year. The entire Shelby County community should be proud of the accomplishments of the Blue River Community Foundation. The Strand salutes their efforts!

GODFATHER – CANCELLED

Muthaship is a rock cover/original band from Shelby County Indiana. The band consist of five members Casey Ruggles on lead vocals, Brady Hiner on bass guitar, Kenny Mitchem on rhythm guitar, Ronnie Hankins on lead/rhythm guitar and Dave Fannin on drums. Muthaship plays an array of rock from bands such as The Cult to Godsmack to Lynyrd Skynyrd to the Sick Puppies. With what seems to be 150 yrs. of live experience Muthaship will provide a rockin’ good time for all who attend a Muthaship show.

Oklahoma! will be shown on the Strand screen on Friday June 11, 2010. Everyone attending the Shelby Senior Services Strawberry Festival on Friday will receive a coupon for $1 off the admission price.
Oklahoma! was made in 1955. This movie adaption is faithful to the stage version. With beautiful scenery, wonderful acting and lust orchestrations by Robert Russell Bennett, this film went on the garner 2 Academy Awards. The filming was personally supervised by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.
The Strand is able to show this film with the gracious help of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization, the Samuel Goldwyn Company and IPD Film Distribution.

Thunder Road with special guest Ray Reisinger performed on the Strand stage on Saturday June 5, 2010.
Ray Reisinger performed the first set. He closed with a piece he co-wrote with Dean McNamara entitled “Cornstock”. This was dedicated to the memory of Pete Jarvis.


Thunder Road played a varied 90 minute set. Pieces included “Let it be” and “Brown Eyed Woman”. They ended with the rock classic “Louie Louie”

The Shelby County Players will be holding auditions for their next production on June 7 & 8th at the Strand.
The SCP will be performing several plays at the Strand for their 2010-2011 Season.
The auditions will be for their production of “And Then There Were None.” It is directed by Tiffany Wilson. Information can be found by clicking on the event link in the Strand calendar.

The Shelby Community Band will perform their Summer Concert on June 20, 2010 at the Strand Theatre. This concert is FREE.
The Shelby Community Band was organized in 1973 by Don Wickizer, Frank Beck and Carol Finkel. The band rehearses every Monday night at 7:30pm at the Shelbyville High School Band Room. The band is under the direction of Russell Smith.
The first conductor of the band was Francis (Fritz) Chesser. At the time, Mr. Chesser was the band director at the old Shelbyville Jr. High School. The band’s first series of concerts 37 years ago took place at the St. Joseph School gymnasium.
The concert will include music that appeals to every taste! Please come to the Strand and enjoy a free concert by this outstanding ensemble.
