The 65th Street Klezmorim will perform on Sunday January 29, 2012 at the Strand Theatre in Shelbyville,Indiana. This group from the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation will present a concert of traditional klezmer music. Under the direction of Cantor Janice Roger, the group will be joined by artist and composer Steven Greenman and Pete Rushefsky.
Steven Greenman is recognized internationally as one of the finest practitioners, composers and teachers of traditional East European Jewish klezmer violin music in the world today. He has performed internationally with notable klezmer ensembles Stempenyu’s Dream, Khevrisa, the Klezmatics, Budowitz, the Flying BulgarKlezmer Band, Kapelye. As a concert performer Steven has been a guest soloist with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, the Canton Symphony and the Akron Symphony performing his own arrangements of traditional East European Gypsy violin music and klezmer music.
Pete Rushefsky is a klezmer musician and Executive Director of the Center for Traditional Music and Dance, which has its home in New York City. He plays the tsimbl (cimbalon) as well as the 5-string banjo. Rushefsky has a book published called Essentials of Klezmer 5-String Banjo, Volume I. He and Steven make up the duo “Di Tzvei” (the two).
Both Greenman and Rushefsky will also join the 65th Street Klezmorim for Shabbat service on Friday, January 27 at the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation at 6501 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis.

The Shelby County Players opened their production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!” on Friday December 2, 2011. Almost 200 patrons enjoyed the spirited and well produced production.
Director Keeley Payne’s cast and crew are presenting this show for this weekend and next at the Strand Theatre. Come out and enjoy and entertaining family play.

The Shelby Community Band performed on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The concert featured Hollywood Hits. The band was joined by guest performers Doug Buchanan on violin, Jon Masters on trumpet, Garry Lauzierre on trumpet and Jerry Bell on Alto Saxaphone.
The concert featured Garry Lauzierre the second half. Everyone had a great time.

Kurt von Schakel was joined by Kathleen Miller and Robin Hopkins for an program that included many types of musical genres. The evening finished with Kurt providing accompaniment to the Buster Keaton comedy ”The Haunted House.”

BJ Fairchild-Newman brought Edgar Lee Masters Spoon River Anthology to the Strand as part of the Shelby County Arts Fest. She assembled a cast of community leaders to bring the characters from the dead to life.
The cast included:
