Historic Bridges

Dr. James L. Cooper will present a lecture on Historic Bridges and their significance in todays transportation network. This free lecture is the third in the 2009 Strand Lecture Series.
Dr. Cooper has written several books on iron and concrete bridges. The lecture will highlight bridges from around the State and some close to home.

Great Landmarks of Indiana

Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana
Mark works for the largest statewide nonprofit preservation organization in the country, Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana. He has served as director of several regional offices, providing preservation advocacy and technical assistance. Mark was promoted in April 2005 to the position of Vice President of Preservation Services, with responsibility for Historic Landmarks’ regional office system and programs in central Indiana.
Mark received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1985 from the University of Nebraska, and came to Indiana to attend Ball State University. It was there that he pursued and completed graduate coursework towards a Master’s degree in historic preservation in 1987. His projects have included seven years of work towards the rescue of the West Baden Springs Hotel, and completion of the Fall Creek Place development in Indianapolis. Mark is currently leading the organization’s initiative Landmarks of the Recent Past, to promote preserving Mid-Century Modern architecture.

Mark will have a multi-media presentation highlighting significant historic structures from around the State of Indiana.
