Danny Russel: June 12, 2009

The Shelby County Historical Society will present Jame Whitcomb Riley interpreter Danny Russel.   The performance will be Friday June 12, 2009 at 7:00pm.   Admission is FREE.

Danny says:  "Join me as I portray our Hoosier Poet, the famous James Whitcomb Riley, just as he was entering the world of entertainment as part of a traveling medicine show.  Be on your guard as he attempts to sell his patented snake oil!  Then, learn about his colorful struggles to find fame before becoming one of America’s most popular writers.  Engaging, fast-paced and humorous, I intersperse true moments from Riley’s life with some of his best-loved poems, including "Little Orphant Annie," "The Raggedy Man," "When the Frost Is on the Punkin" and many others."

Strand Theatre Weekly Email: January 12, 2009

Published by David under Weekly Emails

Hello 2009!  The Strand finished with a flurry of events in December.  So many, that our trusty band of volunteers needed a few weeks off over the Holidays.   That is done, and we are back.

197 of you experienced "Rockphoria" on December 27th.  It was over the top.  Joey G. outdid himself for this final gig.  There were 9 different singers and a great backup band.  We heard hits from the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s.   It was fun.

We didn’t have any events scheduled for January so we could do some heavy maintenance.   Every time we tried to paint something, or fix a little plaster, we had another performance on the horizon.  Job after job got delayed.  So in this very cold month, we have opted to keep the heat down low, and get lots of little things done.  Many volunteers have been in working away at our punch list.   If you want to help, give Steve F. a shout.  You can reply to this email, and he will get it.  We still have lots of things to do.

As we start Act II, we need to pause and thank everyone that made 2008 a success.   Because of you we have been able to come this far.  In 2008 we had 59 performances with a total attendance 7646.   Give yourself a hand!

Our 2009 season is starting to fill nicely.  You can check our web site for all the latest information.

Again, thank you patronage and encouragement.
