Tonight the Strand Theatre re-opened as a performing arts center. This theatre is located in Shelbyville, Indiana, and was transformed from a triple screen movie house. Tonight’s opening is a tribute to the hundreds of people who volunteered their time to help make this a reality.
The Strand is owned and operated by Strand Theatre of Shelbyville, Inc. This not-for-profit was formed in October 2006 with the mission to preserve, renovate and operate the Strand Theatre. Below are the three principles and executive committee members of the organization. From left to right are: Steven R. Frazee, David M. Finkel and Chris Nolley. The smiles are those of relief knowing the theatre opened on time.

Opening night is a few hours away. The theatre is clean, the construction equipment gone, and the tables set. In a few hours the Strand will host its first audience as a performing arts center. The ol’ place is looking pretty good for 92!

The work is going fast and furious. The Strand has its first event 3 days from now on January 17, 2008. We still do not have any bathrooms in the theatre. Gordon, David, Steve and Bob are forced to be out on the sidewalk. We’ll get this theatre done, but it will be by the skin of our teeth…..
